it has in the past with no problems. It could read and write just fine. However now it will not see any audio cd's. It will see a CD-ROM and read off of it just fine...... any ideas?

It's possible that the driver for the drive has become corrupted. Also, it could be that you need to buy one of those disc cleaner discs. Try the cleaner disc first, but if that doesn't help, try this:
Right click on "My Computer", then click on "Properties", and then click on the "Hardware" tab on top. Now click on the "Device Manager" bar and find your DVD burner drive in the listings. Right click on that drive, and choose "Uninstall". Say "Yes", and once that's done exit from there and then reboot the computer. Once the computer reboots, Windows should see that DVD burner as "New Hardware" and correctly reinstall the driver for it. Now try the drive again. Hope this helps.
