If you are an engineer, buy a Windows machine.
If you are not an engineer, buy a Mac.
Windows Vista is not such a great Operating system that I would buy a PC instead of a mac. The OS X operating system in mac is considered the best system for your average computer user. Apple has created a fantastic suite of software that works with all of our modern gadgets.
I have owned a Mac for three years now, and my current computer has NEVER crashed. NEVER! I would challenge every PC user on the planet that they have never had a Windows based machine crash in a three year time period.
The argument for PC users used to be that there is no software for Mac's. This is not the case anymore. The software that Apple has in its iLife suite has everything that you would need to have fun with a computer. Plus these software packages are very powerful with graphics, videos, music. In fact, 90% of all Hollywood films are edited on a Mac. The new MacBooks now have an Intel chip, so if you are set on using Windows you can install it and run it on a Mac. You are no longer tied to a single operating system, but I would use OS X instead of Windows anyday.
If you have spent anytime at all on a Windows based computer operating system you would know that you spend a lot of time installing and reinstalling drivers to get a printer to work, get a picture off your camera, configure it to work with this or that and lets not mention the anti-virus software that you have to constantly update and configure, etc. You simply do not have these issues with a Mac.
Windows (Microsoft) has openly admitted that their operating system is not solving all the issues with PC computers. There has not been a stampede of PC owners running to buy Vista for there computers and many people that have installed Vista on their computers have had numerous problems.
If you want to play games, buy a Playstation or a Wii, but if you want a computer that you can safely search the internet, a computer that you can count on then buy a Mac.

It incredibly comes right down to which working device you like the main. those days you're able to do all the 'standard' initiatives you stated on the two a Mac or a living house windows container. one element you probably did no longer point out is video games, and while you're an avid gamer on a working laptop or pc, living house windows has a brilliant benefit. For widely used computing, I provide it to the Mac - by using fact there's a brilliant answer that could provide you suited of the two worlds. in case you do bypass with a Mac (and a Mac e book could be positive for you) the two use Boot Camp (comes with OS X) and setting up living house windows. With Boot Camp you in certainty get Apple hardware, yet Vista runs super. you additionally can run Vista or living house windows virtualized for loose utilising a product like VirtualBox, however the cost isn't the comparable. XP runs super (imperceptible differences in overall performance) while Vista crawls. solid success, and inspite of which way you bypass, i'm hoping your new pc treats you suitable!

No, no, no...
It simple really, get a Mac. Here comes the list...
Why you should get a Mac:
They don't get 114,000+ viruses
They are faster thank you very much
Apple uses quality materials in their notebooks
Built in camera
sleek design
more media options than windows
easy to use
Front row software
do not freeze up as easily as Windows (and if it does there is an easy way to get out of it)
Do not crash as often as Windows
do not have as much bugs as windows
more configurations
more out of iTunes
Why you should get a PC
can run Microsoft office (but then again, can't every computer?)
Windows media centre (However, it takes up loads of Gigabytes. That means you need to have a really powerful computer to use Windows media centre, you need a desktop not a laptop)
Cheaper
Well, I would go with
I have had reports from my friends that they got a PC and either their graphics chip broke or their Hard disk failed.
Windows Vista is so buggy and vunerable that people can actually remotely hack into someone using Vista and take over their whole operating system. Face it, Vista is way too insecure. Imagine it, 114,000 viruses, tedious virus defence software, waiting for 6-8 weeks for your computer to get back from the factory after it got a virus....

I wasn't really impressed with the Vista operating system when I saw it. Neither were my programmers. I think that just like any new operating system, you should probably wait until they've had a chance to work all the bugs and security issues out before you switch to Vista. But that's just my opinion.
I HEARD it's vulnerable to all the old 1980's viruses (which is hilarious IF that is true, but I don't know for a fact). Picture the viruses they showed on the movie Hackers, like the Cookie Monster virus and all that. I'm no programmer or computer expert by any means, but I know that if I were to try to mess with someone with a virus, I'd pick an old, funny-cool 80's virus like that, especially if I heard Microsoft's new operating system was vulnerable to it. But don't quote me on that because like I said, that's just what I HEARD and I could just be remembering wrong or misheard something which is totally possible.
I say read customer reviews on Vista before you decide to switch to it. Waiting before you buy Vista will not hurt you, especially when the majority of people are still on XP.

It depends on what you'll be using it for. Macs are great for audio/video creating and editing. Plus I think they look cooler.
On the other hand, PC's are more diverse and they cost less than the comperable Mac. However, Vista is still fresh and not all the bugs are worked out.
You can find a decent PC laptop on clearance at most retail stores that still has XP and has some great specs with a great price. I'd check that out.

The best solution is to buy a used laptop and install Linux on it. My used Dell D600 runs VectorLinux and is blazing fast - much faster than Windows could ever be... it even does wireless internet just fine. My word processor starts in less than 2 seconds and my spreadsheet in 2.5 seconds - I timed it with a stopwatch!

# 1 Mac doesn't get viruses that easily compared to Windows, and that is because Mac is unknown compared to windows.
#2 Windows is very vulnerable to virsues and that is because it is a better OS than Mac.
Note that windows mean PC.
#3 Mac is limited to softwares
#4 Windows is not limited to softwares
#5 Mac is slower than PC
#6 PC is faster and more advantangeous than Mac
# 7 10% of the world use Mac, while 90% use PC
# 8 Mac uses two OS's at once, windows and Mac OS, and that is because Mac wants more attention by using windows OS
#9 PC only uses one OS, which is Windows, and they're various versions. PC will not run Mac OS, and that is because PC doesn't need Mac OS. Unlike Mac.
#10 Mac plays games, but very limited, while a PC is best known as entertainment computers, plays games to the max and much more.
You decide which one you refer now.
P.S. Anybody who said Mac has a better GPU ( Graphic Card) doesn't know crap about computer... PC has the best and most advance GPU over Mac by far, and that is because Windows needs the best Graphic card to play games. Unlike Mac, they're no good on playing games, so how would they have the best GPU?
Windows is much better. Get a Vista laptop. End of discussion
