I have a WD USB 80 GB external hard drive not accessible after reinstalling window XP. I tried that in my other pc and its not working there either now. It recognize by both computers but no drive letter appears. Reinstall WD drivers/software few times without luck.

I think something went wrong during OS reinstall while drive was attached. I am wondering, formatting internal drives cause any damage or would it be possible if I accidentally format external one too during the processs !

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

i would not recommend having the drive attached while doing a reinstall. Connect all your peripherals, including external drives, after your reinstallation is complete

Hi. Not likely that formatting the external drive would prevent detection. Just the data would be lost. Try another USB port, 2.0 preferably, and the PC should automatically find it. Double check the power supply if it has one.
