im trying to buy a laptop for school and i didnt want to pay too much but then again i dont want to buy a laptop that will break on me. what you do you think abou these brands?

It starts sorta normal. Then it goes to a screen saying something about it not working right and it gives several options to choose from like "start windows normally" and "start using last known good configuration" how do i get it to work again??

I assembled my own computer but I am having problems to make run it well. "Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter" error appear on the monitor, after set up BIOS. I only have a motherboard CD and a not original Windows XP. I tried inserting them but it didn't go on.

I am biding on a Athlon 64 bit 3ghz socket 939 motherboard bundle) wich the guy se has not been tasted because there is no garphics card . but sed it powers up ok cant he test it using the onboard graphics card . what do you think ? i dont think i can see a monitor out put on the board am i right ?

Hi!

I believe I need a new video card! With my new 19' LCD widescreen computer monitor, I cannot always get a 1440x900 resolution. It comes up after a while (then I must change it to that resolution; when I start up the computer, it is in a bad resolution that has to be changed. Even if I change it and apply the settings, it'll go back to this one the next reboot.

I also recieved recently a computer game called Crashday. There is an error message saying, "Unable to initiate DirectX 9 device, there's a problem with your system configuration." Someone told me a new and more updated video card would do the trick.

So I think I'm better off with getting a new video card unless you think otherwise. I currently have an Intel™ 82865G Graphics Controller. Any ideas on a great but cheap video card?

I have $175 in gift cards to Walmart, so if they have the right one for me there, please direct me in a link! Thanks for your help.

My laptop is Inspiron E1505 and when i go to turn on the laptop the dell and windows xp logos have blue vertical lines on the logo only and then when the xp loading screen is done and it would normally go the the user sign in page, but rather the screen goes blank and stays that way, but the system is still running. I have called DELL repeatedly and still have they yet to help me fix the problem or even identify it ....PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mother board is from a HP 920a computer. It has been put in a new case because the power supply died in the old case. I now want to update the graphics card because right now it only has the on board graphics card. How do I know which one this motherboard will support? I only have PCI slots. I want to get one that will be able to handle such programs as SIMS 2. I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg because it is for my 6 1/2 year old.

ok, bought the printer works fine. Did a major move and lost the cords. Called Best Buy, said i had to buy them directly from HP. Called HP told them i am missing the power cord. Ok great they mailed be a power cord that isnt the right one, called them back and they said i needed this other part that hooks up to the power cord. So ordered that. Came today and still not the right part! So gonna call them back but not sure what to ask for. I need somethng that has three holes, dont know how to explain it that i believe connects to the second thing it got and that in turn connects to the first power cord i rcvd. Does that make sense? three connects just to hook up to power. I have a USB connected but cant get the printer power! Any help/suggested would be appreciated. Thanks.

and even managed to pair the dongle with my phone. i can transfer files from phone to pc, but whentrying to send items to phone a box appears saying windows cannot find the device. what's going on?

When I disconnect my AC Adapter and go to battery, the screen becomes significantly darker and a little hard to read.
Perhaps there is a Control Panel setting for this but I can't find it. Maybe its a hardware "feature".

Anyone out there with the same model Dell Machine?

We were putting music on Itunes this weekend. All of a sudden my cd rom started skippin on the c.d.'s. Now it plays the c.d.'s but it's contunallly doing little skips. It's like it's running at half speed. The c.d. rom light is blinking the whole time. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix it?

I'm going to call dell if I can' figure it out, but last time I waited 3 hours on hold for someone to read an instruction book when I called them...so don't know how much they can help.

I have already submitted this question once but I needed to add details to it because some of the answers I got won't work.

So I'm trying to reinstall windows XP on my Dell but a fatal error keeps occuring that prevents the setup from continuing. Here's what the log file says:

Error:
SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest of policy file "D:\I386\asms\52\MSFT\ WINDOWS\NET\DXMRTP\ DXMRTP.MAN on line 5.

Here's the other problem. I've been trying to find a way to delete the hard drive but everytime the computer reboots, it automatically restarts the installation setup at the point right before the fatal error. There are no other options except to just allow the installation to continue. The computer is a Dell. I was trying to find a way to manually delete the hard disk using MS-DOS but I can't seem to be able to do that either.

Any ideas? Best advice gets 10 points.

I have a desktop but need a notebook to use out for work. Everytime I ask a sales assistant they only tell me the +ve side of the story. I know notebooks are more fragile and wish to make the right purchase. ..something cute like the Sony Vaio but then Toshiba seems to have a good name and then there is Dell with its great service. I just can't make up my mind. If you have ever handled any of these brands please help me decide...Yours, truely confused

PS: I am comparing just the BRAND keeping other details (memory, processor, hard drive & price) constant

I am on my second Dell XPS M1210. I went all out and bought the XPS because my inspiron could not handle my work. I used Dell recommendations to get a really good configuration. Problem is that my system runs short of memory too often. If I open 3 programs and start working, at some point, everything freezes. I have to close 1 of them in order to continue working and sometimes I actually have to restart. I have gone and increased my memory from the control panel but that doesn't seem to do any good. Are there any suggestions?

i was playing sims which i didn't change any settings for in order to play. it suddenly froze then went to desktop which was all big and purpley and bluey (like old-fashioned computer screens) so i restarted the laptop and chose don't send when the error report thing came up. now the ordinary desktop is back but with two black columns on either side and the font is slightly thicker. can i fix it and what cause it? thank you!

Okay I got me a new graphics card for my pc the other day because my old one was no longer supported by the types of games I play. I got a nice brand that is compatible but I've yet to install it. I just bought a 2nd Hard Drive for my computer which I only use for storage (music, photos that sort of thing) no programs are being run off this hard drive. For some reason I can only use 186 GBs of my 200 GB Hard Drive, why is this?
