Everex is more Generic than Acer. Everex is sold at Walmart, but so is Acer. Acer is sold to corporations. Honestly, at the $500 pricepoint you will get a Centino or AMD processor, 40 gig HD, 256-512 RAM, a possible wireless build in and Win XP home edition. Those Specs are great for surfing the net and writing papers. If you are lucky you can get a CD-RW/DVD-Rom combo.

I'd say you extend your warranty with any Sub $500 buy which would send the price well above $700 or you simply take the plunge. I can fix computers and I don't ever remember seeing any broken Acers or Everex notebooks. Always Yahoo search these brands and model numbers to see if others have been having problems with them. You could always buy a previously owned model from www.craigslist.com, I recently did and it works fine for $200.

Yeah Acer is great, I easily have a operating laptop or computer that i exploit for school, merely to do be conscious and internet whatnot, I easily have a custom pc I equipped for all my different needs. i appreciate my acer, had it merely over a year, in no way had any problems with it.

I've bought several off of EBAY with no problems for under $300. Just make sure you know what you minimum requirements are. Remember Software is optional, WORD is expensive to buy and may come loaded on a used puter. Happy Shopping!

I would rather go with a toshiba or dell. They will have a lot of sales now that the holidays are over and you can probably find a good deal if you shop around.

Many electronic stores have "open box" sales that can save you a great deal of cash on a purchase.
