It is saying that because the last time you turned it off incorrectly, so if you just kept pressed the power button until it turned off, theres nothing to worry about.

It is difficult to diagnose because you haven't said what kind of windows you are running. If I'm not mistaken windows 98 had some serious start up, shut down issues. I can't remember if xp had those issues.

I would look for the original CD that came with your computer. You are probably going to need it and many times again depending on your system, it will repair your start up.

restart it choose "start win. normally" if it worked fine if not restart and and choose the CD-ROM as the 1st boot device ( if u don't know how to do that press delete the moment you turn on the laptop and when you enter the bios go to "boot sequence" and choose cd-rom at the section "1st boot" ) anyway when you do that put bootable CD in cd-drive and when dos finished opening, type "c:" then "cd windows" then " reg /fix" or "reg /restore" to restore earlier undeffected files ...and that should fix the poblem if not .... transfer your important files on drive C to another Driver like D or E then format drive C and install windows on it .........PHEW!!! ... i hope i helped even if for a little bit ..:)

This happens when your laptop hasn't been shut down properly. Just use your down arrow to select "start windows normally" and press enter, it should boot up properly then
