We were putting music on Itunes this weekend. All of a sudden my cd rom started skippin on the c.d.'s. Now it plays the c.d.'s but it's contunallly doing little skips. It's like it's running at half speed. The c.d. rom light is blinking the whole time. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix it?
I'm going to call dell if I can' figure it out, but last time I waited 3 hours on hold for someone to read an instruction book when I called them...so don't know how much they can help.

You can go to any local electronics or retail store and buy a CD cleaner for about 10.00. Your run it through your computer and it automatically cleans your CD Drive.
I wouldn't spend more than 10.00 because the drive has gone bad. dells are known for having bad cd drives but they always replace them quickly if under warranty. You can buy a new CD drive for about 20.00 if you shop around and most have instructions on installation. I have found installation on dell computers pretty easy.

Yeah, best bet if your still under the warranty get a new drive from dell other than that download the update for the drivers.

try changing the jumper settings 3 pins on the left change the setting from one to another three different settings If the bios sees the drive it should work You can uninstall the driver in the device manager also unplug the drives ( hard drive and cd) Reboot Reboot again and let your computer find the drives

ROMs all too often break.It sucks but they do.Warranty or out-of-pocket,you need a new ROM.No update to your driver is gonna fix it.If you have to get one out-of-pocket,don't be afraid to spend a little more for your ROM.You get what you pay for.

Open your drive remove and disc blow out with a can of compressed air. Make sure all disc all clean and with no scratchs when you put them in.

remove your cd and buy a new cd drive before that one damage your cds
