I am in the market for a new notebook, spending around $1200 or so. Vista sounds tempting. But I am also looking at Mac.

What would you buy?

Also, will a Mac work with my wireless network at home that my home computer (XP) has? Or is it a pain to hook up...

Whenever I press the button, it makes a clunk and then the light blinks. The only way I can get it open is using a paper clip in the little hole underneath which is a pain and I never have a paperclip on hand. I know I should replace it, but first I want know to know why it stopped working. Do you know?

Let's say a game requires a 3.2ghz single core CPU and I have only a slow Core2duo E6600 2.4GHz.The game DOES NOT take advantage of dual-core processing. does that mean the pentium D/4HT is better than core2duo crap? i regret upgrading my P4 HT to core2duo...

I have another computer! This one is a HP Pavilion 3265 with Windows 95 but my parents can't afford to buy me a new computer. I have to deal with what I have in other words. I've never had a lot of problems with this computer before but today when I was talking on AOL and my computer froze twice. When it freezes, I usually have to restart it like 4 times for it to work again. Today it kept freezing, what can I do (besides not use AOL) to help with this problem?

Every time I put a dvd in it saids Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.
I have watched a movie on it before.I dont know what the proplem .Does anybody know what it could be?

My computer has started something new. Whenever I boot up, the sound for MP3/Wave files is all the way down to zero. I'm talking about when I open the "sound settings" in the system tray. So, if I go to itunes and play music, I get no sound unless I go in and turn the volume back up on the setting for MP3.

This is a new issue, never happened in the past. I've tried to log off and re-boot with it in place the way I want it (so it will save it), with no luck. I've tried going through the Sound stuff through the Control panel. No luck.

Could someone give me an idea of how to fix this?

I have an Asus P4PE Motherboard and am looking to upgrade
the CPU. (currently 2.4GHZ)

I read it can take up to 3.06GHz 533/FSB (Socket 478)
I see chip for sale on E-Bay, can I install a P4-M into a desktop motherboard would it run just as fast as a "desktop" P4?

What would the differences be?

I bought a nice 8mm (Hi8) camcorder a few years ago, and I would like to convert my movies to my hard drive, and then burn them onto a DVD. Any suggestions as to how I could do this? Im running Xp SP2, My graphics card is 512mb so it can handle anything. Soundblaster audio card. My CPU could handle pretty much anything, Got a brand new DVD burner from Santa Claus...all I need now is some suggestions on what I would need to capture the audio and video from the camcorder. THanks.

I need a laptop for school, Mainly for word, the net and general stuff. I am looking at the toshiba a105 and the Sony vaio. Some are 60-800 or they are trying to sell me soup to nuts for about 1300. And the old keyboard does NOT have a USB port and cannot connect anywhere on the laptop. I've looked for adapters that can do this and they do exist, but I'm not sure what works.

Any ideas?

I think I may have to carry in the keyboard to a place to have it fitted properly.

I used to have this nice small program, let's say I have a file I wanna send to you, this program make me select the file and turn it's location into a URL link, then I can send this URL link to u (over a messenger or something, even an email) when u click on this link u will start downloading the file from me, like u r downloading a normal file from a typical link. cool Huh? too bad I can't remeber that program. Hello there
I seem to be having some troubles with my laptop.The other day i went to pick the thing up and it was very hot to the touch.I shut it off and it cooled down.I went to turn it back on and everytime it just comes up black(the screen).I can see icons on the desktop if i take a flashlight and shine it on the screen.
So what do i do next?
