I am in the market for a new notebook, spending around $1200 or so. Vista sounds tempting. But I am also looking at Mac.

What would you buy?

Also, will a Mac work with my wireless network at home that my home computer (XP) has? Or is it a pain to hook up...

A Mac will work flawlessly with your Wi-Fi home network; I have a mixed-platform network here and my Macs are perfectly happy using my Linksys router. In fact, I am using my Mini right now through that same router, which I have used since 2002, to answer your question. (I've also used my iBook many, many times to hook up to random wireless networks -- no problem, ever.)

If you have any reason whatsoever to want to use Mac OS X (and there are plenty of those), get a Mac. You can use it with Boot Camp or Parallels Desktop to run Windows if you REALLY want to, but only a Mac can run OS X.

As for what machine: a MacBook is your only option at that price point. They're great machines, though!

Mac are very nice computers. They are alot faster and hardly ever crash. I notice a big difference going from my pc to the mac. With mac there are some drawbacks, you can not run exe files, which alot of programs are. If you want to do graphics and movie type stuff macs are the way to go. You will have no problems with the wireless network, mac has the built in cards, and will pick up the network easily.

$1200 for an iMac (generally) means a low-end computer.

However, HP has a Vista ready laptop for C$1,599 (about U$1,300[?]), the nx6325 (depnding on your wants, you can buy it for as low as C$849).

Remember, if you buy (a computer) with XP, but want to pick-up Vista, you can have it (the XP license) removed for a discount.
