I need a laptop for school, Mainly for word, the net and general stuff. I am looking at the toshiba a105 and the Sony vaio. Some are 60-800 or they are trying to sell me soup to nuts for about 1300. They guy said it will be outdated if I dont spend more now. Do I need internal blue tooth? Which brand is better and should I take all the arrenty and damage insurance?

If you are using a laptop for what I call general purpose computing (word processing, internet, email, etc), you don't need a high-end machine. A Toshibia or even a Dell will work just fine.

I would invest in wireless but not necessarily bluetooth. You will use the wireless for more than connecting say to a bluetooth headset.

Avoid the warranty insurance unless you anticpate using it in a rough environment. If you buy a refurbish, then consider it. Generally, you will end up trading out your laptop for a new one in a year or two.

Don't let those salespeople shark you into spending tons of money. I bought a laptop six months ago and it's already outdated for what I do.

Remember to ask about student discounts at Dell. You might want to check into getting a MacBook which can run Windows inside an emulator - plus Apple offers education discounts.
