HD DVD players can play the new high definition DVDs that are coming out, if you have an HD TV. On the other hand, there are many more regular definition DVDs than HD DVDs right now and the HD DVD players are much more expensive - several hundred dollars vs. well under a hundred. Plus the HD DVDs themselves cost significantly more than regular definition DVDs. Only you can determine if the difference in resolution is worth the higher costs.

They can play HD DVDs which are sweet, but the players and the dvds are expensive, just wait 3 months and they will be much cheaper. A normal dvd drive cannot play HD DVDs.
