Looking for a new printer, what's the best one I can buy without spending a lot of extra money on bonus features that may or may not be used?

Basically anything by HP is pretty good and well-priced. Good printing quality, good price, cheap ink, easy to install/use, and HP has good online support too just in case you do run into a problem.

HP doesn't necessarily have the best reputation for computers but their printers are pretty decent. I've had two (each came for free with computers that we've bought) and never had a problem with either.

If you just need it for printing and nothing else (no scanning, faxing, photos, etc), you can get a good HP for like, $30 (shopping.hp.com). And the ink isn't too expensive either. Plus if you go to Staples, they have Staples brand ink that is compatible with HPs and it's pretty cheap. Careful with other printers, the printer itself may be cheap, but look at the price of the ink too, that's where it'll get ya. Like Epsons aren't TOO expensive, but the ink is and you can't get generic brands for most Epson styles so it ends up costing you much more. Lexmark is the same. The printer isn't too expensive, but the ink for them is ridiculous and you're forced to buy the brand name ink for top price.

Good luck!

Before you make your purchase look at how much it is going to cost you to replace the cartridges and how much ink you are getting for that price. I cannot emphasize that enough.

I personally really like Canon printers, namely the MP150, 160 or for more basic use the Canon Pixma IP2200, all three are under $80. The first two are multifunction units. The latter is just a printer.

Canon is currently one of the leaders in imagine, they do really high quality prints and their inks have a 100 year archival guarantee. the lowest capacity cartridge you will find from canon is around 16ml, triple that of most HP cartridge.

The first thing, you should choose between inkjet or laser toner printer. The inkjet machine will cheaper while expensive in consumption. So it better to buy a laser toner and use compatible toners(like the orientsun toner), if you didn't well know about the compatible toner, maybe you could find some text in http://www.toner-china.com
