No one is going to build you one these days with outdated specs like that. If that's really all you need, look on eBay. I'm sure you can find a lot of used ones in good shape with similar specs (and for a heck of a deal).

These days, you should be looking for a laptop that has a dual-core processor (Core 2 Duo or the Athlon X2). If you think you want VIsta later, 512MB is the minimum but 1GB or more is heavily recommended. The hard drive doesn't really matter, but you will find that it doesn't take long to fill 20GB. You will want at least 120GB of space, trust me!

The mid-range price you are looking at is somewhere between $1000 - $1200. You can shave a few dollars here and there by going with smaller hard drives, and AMD instead of Intel.

Windows Vista will not run on 256 MB of Ram. If you were to get a 20 GB hard drive you would only be left with about 5 GB since Vista needs 15 GB available space.

System Requirements for Vista:

You can get a custom built pc from a lot of sites.

www.cyberpowerpc.com
www.killernotebooks.com
www.dell.com
www.hp.com

Depends how much you want to spend.

I've read Vista takes a minimum of 1 gig of ram to run, so 256MB of ram won't cut it. The hard drive, that is small, 20GB, I haven't researched it, but you might want to check out Vista's requirements then build your dream laptop around those specifications. Chow.

Vista requires a minimum of 512mb, add your security software, other programs, and you should not be looking for anything lower than 1gb. Go to dell.com, they have options to build a laptop. But finding a package from the factory will be cheaper.

firstly , vista was create to run only on 1gb memory, if it gets lower than thatit will slow your computer down. The hardrive should be no less than 60 and they dont make anything less anyway. You could build your computer online with dell and toshiba and have it shipped, but you will find that you can get it cheaper if you buy it from best buy on their website or instore. Best buy i usually cheaper than compusa and circuit city.

go check out evertek.com, they have built, and buildable bodies. as well probably the best deals for most all of the hardware you want. Dell builds, and ships, Gateway builds and ships. or try locally. Good Luck.

check dell's website...with Vista coming out, they'll customize your laptop, and 20GH is small, shoot for at least 80GB hard drive, 1GIG of RAM
