It was the minute the prong touched the outlet i saw huge blue sparks..i thought i was gonna burn the house down. Why does this happen? What can i do to prevent this frm happening in the future?? I did buy new power cord today at store.

i already chucked that bad boy...i was scared of those sparks...they were huge! nice to know it was nothing that i did

nope i tried different outlets..same thing even when disco from the labtop...you could see the damage on the prong...i did replace the surge protector too..but why would it do it on different outlets??????????

Most likely, the wires inside the cord somehow got crossed. This caused the negative and positive charges to touch each other, causing the sparks. Throw the cord away and never use it again. To prevent this from happening again, always unplug the cord by pulling on the plug itself and not the cord and keep it away from sharp objects.

The outlet is the problem. The metal prongs in it are worn, loose, so when you plug in, it arch's. Try a different outlet. You really didn't need a new power cord. Have someone change the outlet, the part cost around a dollar. Chow
