Wait till you buy a new computer, it is just another operating system. The hardware requirements I have read about is at least 1 gig of RAM! Every time I upgraded to the latest operating system, I had problems, with the drivers for the hardware, and some programs not running on it. If it's not broke, don't upgrade it. Chow

No, imo and the opinion of many others on the internet, Vista is a joke. Its basically OSX 10.4 but with less functionality, and much less secure. Do not upgrade, if you like multimedia, because vista's DRM prevents every media form other than legally downloaded music and movies from being used on it, that means you cant use any of your legally obtained DVD's or other legally obtained music. It has no programs made for it yet, and it is way too power consuming. The only big difference between XP and vista is the interface.
my suggestion, buy an imac if you want a desktop, or a macbook if you want a notebook, dual boot XP (maybee vista when you need to upgrade) and OSX 10.5 Leopard, the future most advanced OS by far. (which is what I will be doing)
