Let's say a game requires a 3.2ghz single core CPU and I have only a slow Core2duo E6600 2.4GHz.The game DOES NOT take advantage of dual-core processing. does that mean the pentium D/4HT is better than core2duo crap? i regret upgrading my P4 HT to core2duo...

One of those cores in not probably faster than a Pentium 4, one of those cores destroys a Pentium 4. Just looking at Ghz alone stopped being about 3 years ago. You have to consider front side bus speed, the amount of cache, and the amount of data sent in a clock cycle, etc. The Core 2 Duo blows away the Pentium 4s in every application out there, games included.

Games are more dependent on graphics cards, not so much the CPU. Core 2 is better because it takes less power and produces less heat than a P4. Not to mention Overclocking a Core 2 Duo is better than Overclocking a P4 due to the reasons that I had mentioned. E6600 is very good. If games are running slow get a better GPU.

The core 2 duo is anything BUT slow.

The game will use 1 of the cores of the E6600, and even at 2.4Ghz, it will probably be faster than your 3.2 Ghz you had before.

I also have a E6600 (upgraded from a P4 3.6) and the performance boost is very noticeable, I doubt its your CPU slowing you down. How much RAM and what GPU you have? Maybe there's your bottleneck.

Not sure if Intels do this but AMD dual cores use a technology that allows games like to take advantage of the dual core processing ... even if they weren't designed to do so.

Go to Intel's web site or look for blogs on it ... I can't believe Intel would have overlooked that.
