I have a P4 machine with onboard VGA. I bought it from my friend. I have XP Pro. SP.2. Everytime I startup, the display brightness is extremely high. And everytime as soon as I open Graphic properties> Colour- the brightness comes to normal. This is a bit disturbing.
I tried reinstalling XP and reinstalling my graphics driver but the problem still persists. I asked all my friends but none could help me out. I can't figure out what's wrong. Could you please suggest?

Laptop is fine on table, but if I use it on my lap for an extended length of time it overheats.
Is this usual?
What is the point of a laptop if you can't use it on your lap?
It is a Toshiba M50, with 1024 MB, and 60 GB.
Might not be relevant.
Just trying to give as much info as possible.

My Floppy driver isn't working and the CD is lost. Last time I downloaded the same from the net from the below mentioned link but this time it isn't working at all. Need urgent Help.

Hey, follow up on my previous qn.

I am currently using an AMD athlon XP 2800+ system.
overclocked to 2.3ghz (not sure abt the cache, if there is, i roughly think it's abt 512kb)
768mb ram
and 8xAGP 256mb ATI Radeon 9600 power colour.

Is it worth upgrading to dual core D805 2.66ghz? about 2mb cache i think.

Would there be an improvement in performance of my game? If so, roughly what's the percentage in improvement? considering the same amount of ram?

I have a toshiba satellite l10-333 laptop, and my warranty has just run out. everytime i plug my charger into the laptop, my laptop doesn't recognise that it is plugged into the mains, and the little battery sign in the corner is still showing. When ive looked closely, the wire in the charger has split. does anyone know if toshiba will fix this for me, or whether i have to buy a new one? and if so,where can i get one from? im a student and so need my laptop to have power!! please help!

It is a Cannon S900 printer
All six ink cartridges are new,
the pictures were predominantly green, but after some fiddling with the two red cartridges the pictures are now pink.
There are thin horizontal lines of blue accross the picture, spaced out by about 4mm

Surprising, the printer behaves as if it is printing pages but what I get is a blank page. I have tried replacing the cartridges as well as the print head. Can anyone help ?

What are decent numbers for a proccessor speed, system bus, hard drive, RAM, and others?
I want to buy a computer, and i need to know a few things so i don't waste my money. I just use the computer for basic web-surfing and use of a couple other programs. my current computer hold 240.0 MB of RAM, and runs programs just fine. I can't tell what my proccessor speed is though because I'm running windows ME and can't find it in my 'computer> properties' like suggested.
I need to know:

How much RAM should I look for? a lot of computers within my budget have 512, is that good?

What proccessor speed should i get? is 1.8GHz good?

System Bus numbers? is 1600MHz good?

Cache Memory? what's the difference between level 1 and 2? and is 256kb's reliable?

The hard drive size for the computers in my price range are 120GB, is this too low for what i want?

Like I said, I only really surf the net, and have a couple games and graphic software installed, along with a camera and a couple mp3 players i have used on here. I know it's a lot of info, so thank you in advance!

its a pentium 4, 640 MB RAM (128+512). this happened recently after a power surge busted my power supply .. so i got a new one 400 W which is better than the last one. after the incident it takes a lot of time to boot but works fine afterwards.. i have tried all spy-adware- virus scans , defragmented my drives the whole works .. but its still slow than what it was .. i have not installed any new programs also .. plz help

My computer doesn't recognize that it has a CD drive. It shows up in My Computer along with a: and c:, but when I click on it, the message says it is not accessible. If I put a CD in the drive, the message displayed asks that I put a CD in the drive. How do I get the CD drive to run?
