Hey, follow up on my previous qn.

I am currently using an AMD athlon XP 2800+ system.
overclocked to 2.3ghz (not sure abt the cache, if there is, i roughly think it's abt 512kb)
768mb ram
and 8xAGP 256mb ATI Radeon 9600 power colour.

Is it worth upgrading to dual core D805 2.66ghz? about 2mb cache i think.

Would there be an improvement in performance of my game? If so, roughly what's the percentage in improvement? considering the same amount of ram?

if you currently have XP 2800, there are many other CPU's with same price as dual core 805 that can boost your gaming speed.

Don't get confuse about speed and multi-tasking.

For $100, you can buy a dual-core 805 or a pentium 4 541 3.2GHZ 800MHZ.

The matter of choice really rely on what you use the system for. Dual-core can handle multitasking extremely well. For instant, it allow you encode a DVD and playing game at the same time. The pentium 541 in the other hand will significantly speed up single task program, like gamming machine.

So if multi-tasking is not important, consider a single core.

good luck

This would definitely help the performance. The athlonxp not only uses old cpu technology but slower memory and a slower bus speed as well. All of these things affect the performance of your system. And while not a lot of games use dual core technology more will in the future. The fact that the actual speed of the processor is not much higher than you have now is shadowed by the fact that modern processors have a lot of new technologies within them that give you more performance per ghz than older models. I say go for it!

why all the fuss...most speed is from high speed internet vs equipment..sure its a bit faster but have you checked the transmission speed of the isp and compared it to other providers?
