its a pentium 4, 640 MB RAM (128+512). this happened recently after a power surge busted my power supply .. so i got a new one 400 W which is better than the last one. after the incident it takes a lot of time to boot but works fine afterwards.. i have tried all spy-adware- virus scans , defragmented my drives the whole works .. but its still slow than what it was .. i have not installed any new programs also .. plz help

It may be that you got a hold of a faulty power supply. Enough to run your system but not running at full power like it should.

try powering down disconnect all components from the computer (hard drive,CPU,CD-ROM,video card and every wire for the computer) check the burn marks the power surge could have fried some of the computer parts. plug them back in restart the computer

Your RAM may have been fried... try to remove a single stick or replace the ram... normally when a PC gets fried it is the first thing to go... it is the most temperamental.

turn off some start ups. go to run and type mdconfig and go to start up pannel and uncheck anything that u dont need to run in the back. like burning software nreo, roxio, acrobat stuff like that. then restar the computer againg and see it . ot but a nre one Dueal Core.

Try cleaning out all the programs that you don't need, If your not sure about what you need then call a pc geek.
