on a machine running Ubuntu Linux, is it possible to run two different sound cards to two different sets of speakers playing two different sources? ex) so I can listen to music in one room, and someone else can watch a DVD in another room; all wired to one computer

My wife has a Compaq Presario 1277 that's she's had for many years. It stopped working a few days ago. The light on the front of the laptop that indicates AC power turns on, but that's about it. It doesn't turn on at all (with or without the battery in). In the end, all I need to do is get some old data off of it. Is there a way to do that?

I'm shopping for a laptop with a screen size btwn 10-14inches. I am looking for a laptop that doesn't overheat and burn up only to constantly shut down. My Toshiba laptop currenlty does this so I think I am staying away from Toshiba's as well as Sony's (I hear the latter gives same problems too). Any suggestions for any great brands and/or models to consider purchasing?

I want a nice laptop that will make me think "I am so glad that I chose this laptop". The laptop should definitely last for a long time meaning it will keep up with the futures' laptop standard for the next 5 years. I don't really have a favorite side because it is going to be my first laptop. I will use it for typing, playing music/videos, and major web surfing.

but i noticed that there was a yellow sign..they are PCI device, PCI simple comunnications controller, and a unknown device..wen i go to sound,video and game controllers + i noticed that teh SM bus controller has a yellow sign with an exclamation mark: (!)....wat should i do!!?? i have a realtek audio thing and i have the insaller..but wen i install it , it has no sound..?!?! is it cus of the SM bus controller?? what do i do to fix this pls!! i really need help !! please!!!!

I will be using for school. But I want something that will make other people's laptops go to shame.
Other than that I want a really fast laptop. It should be able to run multiple file, documents, etc. all at once(i.e. downloading music/video and surfing web or watching a movie.

everytime I turn on my pc, it is 10 hours off every day. I only turn it on once a day, and then turn off before bed. So I click on the clock at the bottom, and change it. That never happened b4. Why is it happening now??

I have brought this laptop at costco and return it because it was little crappy so I brought a another same 1 from Cash cards they gave me. I got this laptop on the 8/02/2006 at 13:13 so I was wounder If i can return it on the Janurary because It suck like the 1 before and I want Vista pre-install it has a 6 month policy thing. Will they take it back even because I have brought on a Cash card by returning somthing.I also have my slip that says that .

Ok 1 more thing I got the laptop for 1,073.74 included with tax the laptop was 999.99$ Is acer better or I should go get a another company's PC which is better.

I'm trying to mend a pc for a girl I work with and when you turn the comp on, the XP logo comes up but then the screen just goes black, I have tried to start in "last known good configaration" and also tried safe mode. Both to no avail. Can anyone please give me any advice on what else to try. Thanks
