When I go to turn it on it kicks up for a couple of seconds, the hd starts to initialize and then it just cuts off.

I added a ram chip shortly before the problem started and took it back out when it happened. I'm hoping its a power supply problem not a mb problem.

Okay there are a few things which can cause this. I will list them in order of how common they are.

Bad power supply. Try replacing it and see if that helps.

Possible electrical problem with motherboard. This is hard to diagnose without a POST card (Power On Self Test). Take it to a shop.

Bad CPU, see above

Bad RAM See above.

I guess my point is unless you have enough spare parts sitting around to swap out each part one at a time, then take it to a shop where they can test it with special doagnostic hardware.

Look at the original ram chip and anything else you might have jarred loose while you were in there. And, if you took the original memory chip out instead of the one you added, you wouldn't be the first one to make that mistake.
The big possibility is static while you were in there. No cure for that but a new mutha board.

Could be any number of problems. Does it make the "BEEP" noise when it turns on? Do you even get to the desktop or Windows screen?

Because you keep unplugging it. (Kinda vague in the details!)
