My mobo croaked. However everything else is fine such as my HDD, RAM, and everything else.

While I could get a motherboard compatable with my current cpu (old socket A) I wanted to just upgrade in that area to a new cpu and mobo that will work with the rest of my hardware.

I have a new mobo and cpu chosen, HOWEVER, I am wondering how easy it will be , IF POSSIBLE, to use my existing installaton on my HDD. Im pretty sure there will be conflicts in the device manager for example with the hardware. Will things even boot up? Can I even get into safe mode after changing such important hardware?

Or are things like CPU and MOBO set in stone at the time of OS installation.

Thanks in advance!

Well im thinking about changing my motherboard, but i still want to use my old processor, but I am not sure what the socket type is.

Is there a way to do it w/o taking the actual processor chip off the motherboard?

On toms hardware for call of duty 2 the intels showed up higher than the amd's. I am building a computer, and i have to make the major choice between amd and intel. Would intel be better for me, i would like to keep it under 100, but i could go up to 150. If you say AMD i allready know what kind i would get. The AMD dual core i would get is the windsor 2.0Ghz, 3800+ with 1mb cache, and the single core i might get would be the San Diego 3700+, 1mb cache. SHould i go with the AMD or intel, and if you say intel please specify which one i should get. And by the way i would be using it for gaming, and fileshare with a raid 0.

Currently I have a 128MB Radeon 9200 video card on a PC with 512 MB of RAM, P4 2.4GHz processor, and a 120GB Hard Drive. I'm thinking of updating my video card to a 256MB Radeon X1600 Pro so I can the most out of my new Flight Simulator X.

Now I'm no computer wiz so I'm asking: If I update for this 256MB graphics card will I need to get more RAM?? I'm also unsure about the Hard Drive because I know that Flight Sim X requires atleast 15GB of free disk space which I think is alot. Keep in mind that I use my PC for more than just gaming so there's a lot of files on it. I'm a little stumped on what to do coz I'm not a wiz,,,, please any info would be great. Thanks!

I am trying to scan a document. In word if it stays in the exact format as the original I am unable to edit it. If the format changes and just the words are transfered, then I can edit. My goal is to keep the format and edit. Has anyone had experience with this?

I have a brand new Intel Core 2 computer
2.13 Ghz Core 2 Processor
2 GB DDR2 800 MHz Ram
Samsung DVD-+RW with lightscribe
ATI AIW X1900 Graphics Card

This computer is top of the line and I can do everything great on it it only has an issue when it comes to DVD playing. The DVD seems to play slower and skip frames making an annoying noise on speakers and playing slowly. Basically a uniformly choppy playback. I have tried a number of things uninstalling codecs etc I am presently trying to make it work with WinDVD but still the same issues arise. Please give me some suggestions

I got a HP Pavilion dv9030us notebook the other day and at first the fan didn't run all the time. Today, I've noticed the fan seems to be running all the time!!! Why is this? I noticed it now because before the notebook was pretty silent now its a little bit louder all the time!!! Please give me some suggestions on what the problem is, or if there is no problem. I'm not familiar with laptops at all.

My computer has really slowed down since I've been using iTunes... makes sense as I'm using up about 40GB in songs. How can I (a novice computer user) speed my system up again? Do I need to load another hard drive (if I have a slot available)? THANKS!
