My computer has really slowed down since I've been using iTunes... makes sense as I'm using up about 40GB in songs. How can I (a novice computer user) speed my system up again? Do I need to load another hard drive (if I have a slot available)? THANKS!

I have about 10,000 songs in itunes, and my computer is not any slower because of it. You are just storing the files on your disk. This does not use any of the processor unless you are actually accessing the file.

So - the real question is why your computer is slowing.

1/ Over time, you need to defrag your hard drive. Open my computer, right click on your c drive > properties > tools > defragment now. Do this every couple of months.

2/ You have a lot of programs that have snuck into your computer at startup time. install winpatrol (free - use the link below). Check the 'startup programs' tab. if you have more than about 20 items, invistigate each item and disable anything you dont need. Liutilities.com is a great source for this.

3/ If your antivirus is norton or mcaffee, dump them, as they are resource hogs. Just make sure you follow all the remove instructions to get everything out. Install Avast instead. Its free, small, fast, and more effective than the previously mentioned.

4/ lastly, you can blame microsoft's patches every month to a small degree. Every patch they make adds a little bit to the overhead. Its the price we all have to pay for the innocent and not-so-innocent hackers.

Taking care of the 1st three should speed you up considerably. regarding #4, and just overall performance, RAM is the best thing you can buy next to bandwidth. Forget all the accelerators you may hear about. Its just junk.

For more Hard Drive Space, buy an external hard drive ($30-$200)
These plug into a USB Port - (PRINTER PORT)

Good Luck
