For some reason DVD players that also record CD's, as one unit, for PC's have issues playing DVD's. Unlike the Mac's, which seem to have no problems with their supper player/recorder. I am unsure of your case but usually what happens is the DVD player works fairly well for a while then all of a sudden just the DVD part of the player/recorder starts to fail. However, the recorder part of the player still works and records fine. I have read that this may be do to the way the laser is reading and interpreting and or not interpreting the code on the CD's/DVD's. Seeing how your computer is new get the company you bought it from to replace it. See if they might, for little or no extra cost, replace it with two units. For example, a separate DVD player and CDRW recorder, then your problem would be solved. If your computer has one of those warranties that also covers someone coming out and putting in the unit then make them do it as their labor is warranted as well and you are covered both ways.

Your DVD drive may not have an optimal connection to your computer. DVD playback with an All-in-wonder card is better because the ATI hardware takes some of the video processing load off the processor. However you will not notice these benefits until you use the ATI DVD player software that came with your card, and found on the ATI website.
Check your Primary or Secondary IDE controller properties in Device Manager, DMA should be either checkmarked or enabled for your Samsung DVD-+R drive.
Unfortunately, the only codecs that affect DVD playback are the ones that are bundled with WinDVD. This might be a PowerDVD codec, but ATI normally uses the Cyberlink DVD decoder.
Hope this helps get your DVD's playing smoothly.

Try using an alternative program for playing DVD's and try installing the k-lite codec pack for videos. Do a google search for VLC Media Player, and see if that one plays your DVD's okay. Or try using windows media player, that might also help.

Can you specify what type of DVD youre trying to play?
(DVD+R, DVD-R, is it a pirated DVD? Is the DVD copyrighted?)
I know ive had problems with a series known as FREAKS AND GEEKS, the dvd would skip and frequently freeze, or the screen would go black, i was assuming the DVD was doing it to prevent the DVD from being ripped(copied).

Try running just the DVD program and make sure your disc is clean. If that doesn't work you may need a different program
