If Windows XP suddenly starts without warning, or restarts when you try to shut it down, it may be because your operating system is set to automatically restart when certain system errors occur. This feature of the Windows XP operating system can be disabled. Use the information below to disable the Automatically Restart option.

Resolve this issue by turning of the Automatically Restart option:

1. Click Start, right-click My Computer and click Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab and select Settings in the Startup & Recovery section.
3. Remove the check mark next to Automatically Restart under System Failure.
4. Click OK to close the Startup and Recovery window and click OK to close the System Properties window.
5. Restart the PC.

The PC will no longer restart automatically when a problem occurs. Instead a blue screen appears with more useful information. You can now search for a resolution using the text from the error.

After you perform the above steps, check if the issue persists in "safe mode with Networking", scan for virus, get the BIOS update from the manufacturer.
