Computer Networking - March 2007

Ok my office ordered a few new desktop to replace some really crappy computers. All the new computers have windows XP pro on them. My question is what is the best way to set up a network?

This is how it works here.. there is a server that holds all the offices data. All the computers have to be connected to that server but not necessarily to each other. Once logged in to any network computer the person should be able to access the server without typing in any username/password.

However, I need to set it up so that users can access the server from a remote address (home for example), yet if they do so it should require a username/password.

I'm not sure how the internet is currently set up, but would this require a static IP address? (I think we already have this).

Also, i've always wondered this.. what is the difference between "WORKGROUP" and "DOMAIN" .

Appreciate any advice.. thanks.

We are currently having to manually add our new printers and servers into DNS, and would like to make this an automated process.
Is there a script that can be created to do this? We are using Windows 2003 Servers.

Thanks!

Connecting through remote desktop(mstsc -terminal services client) on WIndows XP.
When I play videos on the remote computer its glitchy..even on VLC player.
Is this because of codecs or its not possible to synch videos remotely?

I've just signed up for pacific internet singapore's vocal plan and they've send me a linksys spa 3102 voice gateway. However, i can't seem to configure it. I've tired all sorts of ways from calling their technical support helpdesk and they told me i can't use a normal phone for it. I've to use a software to talke...LOL. Than why did i sign up for it? I could have used skype.I went to the shop umpteen times and they just don't know how to solve it. They said the demo set hasn't come out. Demo set means a set that shows how the linksys spa3102 is connected..LOL. Why did they ask customers to buy in the first place then? I really need help...

D-Link - Network adapter - PCMCIA Type II 32-bit Cardbus - Ethernet, Fast Ethernet - 10Base-T, 100Base-TX, English (DFE-690TXD)

it said it was the network adapter of that laptop, but i dont know... plz, give me any reference or help...

Yesterday I upgraded from 1024 mbps to 2048 mbps. Even though I upgraded, when I move my mouse over the little computer on my start bar (by my clock) it says Speed 100.0 Mbps. Is this right? What should my speed be in mbps and kbps if I upgradedto 2048 mbps? Is there anywhere to go to get a speed test? If so, at what speed should my computer be running at? And finally, is 2048mbps fast? I mean, I don't know how much faster I can get.. my cable company stops at 2048mbps. Is this good? Thanks!
