Can someone advise whether there are any products I can download/buy that will increase the connection from my Laptop to my BT Homehub.
My Broadband connection is between 2-8Mb and my laptop is connecting at 54Mbps - any way to increase this?

Your Laptop is connecting to the HUB at 54Mbps not the Broadband Connection. 2 different things. hun

The BT Home Hub is only rated at a wifi top speed of 54Mb... and that's 'only' 6-25 times as fast as your broadband connection will deliver data to the home hub. It's not the slowest thin in your connection to the outside world.
There's nothing you can do to improve the home hub as 802.11g (= 54 Mbit connection speed) is the highest standardised speed. The next steup up isn't an approved standard, so anything you buy that offers it may be a dead end.
If you want to ramp your connection speed up for some reason you'd have to stop using wifi and go to wired ethernet (which will give you 100Mbit to the home hub and if ou put gigabit in will allow you gigabit interconnect to your other PCs. Or of course turn off the home hub wifi and install a not-yet-ratified set of wifi kit.
But you won;t get more than 100Mb to the home hub (as that's all it will go at by wire)... and it will still not speed up your internet connection as that will still be limited to 2-8Mbit.

you may be getting perceived slower speeds because of interference from other home hubs using the same broadcast channel in your area.
Home hubs are set to channel 1 by default. You can change this using your home hub manager - put it a lot higher, 8,9 or 10 and this should improve things.
But as already pointed out, your wi-fi connection between your hub and your laptop is much faster than your broadband.

Thats all you get, it should fast enough. I have 12mb broadband and get 54Mbps on my wireless and its fine even when downloading

You asked this question yesterday, your wireless connection is 26 times faster than you broadband.
2Mb = 2Mbps
8mb = 8Mbps
54Mbps = 54Mb
