as in what?
56k was the last 'pay as you go'/dial up speed.
broadband came out at 512kbs almost 10 times 'faster'.
now, depending on where you live, how far from an exchange you are, what service you are on etc etc there are companies offering over 20mps.
the reality is you are unlikely to get anywhere near this speed.
looking from another angle, had you been one of the first ever owners of a modem and had used it all the time since then and suddenly jumped to a 56k modem you would be amazed at the speed of the internet as there was a vast difference in speeds.
now, the human brain can only take so much information in at a time so an increase from 56k to 512k (or whatever) does not make a great difference to the human eye, the computer could well be 10 times faster but this will equate to less than milliseconds in real time.
trying to keep this simple so i know what i am trying to say lol...so your internet will be working faster but your eyes and brain cannot percieve the increase.
on the other hand, it might be fecked ;)

I have BT Broadband, the area I live in can receive UP TO 8 meg, note the up to . The actual speed you obtain is in fact generally much lower. This is governed by the distance from the exchange, the further you are the slower it gets. There is a utility called on speed which claims to make your broadband up to five times faster for less than £2 per month which gets good reviews in computer mags Google on speed to check it out. Hope this helps.

The speed of your broadband depends on where you live and what your telephone exchange allows.. some go as far as 8 mb but it is usually less than that mine gives about 6 mbIf you are not happy contact your broadband provider and ask them to check it for you
