i have a dynamic ip and would like to update my ip about 5-10 times a day- the cable modem is in the next room. Is there a command or way to program a command so that i can power it off and back on or even restart it from my computer instead of walking over and unplugging it?

I am putting a wifi card in my old laptop and i am unfamiliar with how it all works.
No details are too small for me.
Can I get onto the web anywhere they broadcast a signal and will the card automatically recognize my wireless router's signal?
How do you keep other people from just driving by and accessing your personal signal from your router?

I have a laptop and a desktop computer and I have a wireless router in my house. I think anyone who lives in the vicinity can jump on to my internet. I know its not safe. How do I close it out so that only my laptop and my office computer get internet access? Will it be safe from hackers after that? Please give me step by step instructions as I am a computer illiterate! Thanks!

We have this system that has worked for years. It is 2 Windows XP Pro SP2, talking up a VPN (over ADSL Modem) to a remote server. The destination ip of the two xp boxes was 10.10.10.11 or so. The VPN box failed, and was replaced. After the VPN was replaced, the destination ip is now something like 167.75.43.20, having been changed by the techies at the server site. Long story short, I am trying to map a drive to a folder on that remote, and keep getting error 53 "Network path not found" even though we have triple checked the syntax of the cammand, the destination ip, and manually verified that the volume exists. I can ping the server address and get a good reply. What am I missing? I'm a control-side programmer with limited network knowledge. Thanks.

The server that was the domain controller crashed and burned. All the data from it was unrecoverable which wasn't that big a deal because nobody was doing backups anyway. So now I've got a new Win2K3 Server but no backup data from the original Win2K server. How can I migrate the users to this new server? Any resources that you can point me towards would be appreciated. I can provide additional details if necessary.

I can see other (neighbours) networks from my home PC but not my wireless network. I know the router is working because my work PC connects without problems. My home PC did work at some point but now not.
Could it be a firewall issue?

no one can see my games on nwn because of my router. I found out that I need to change to a static ip address. My problem is while I'm trying to change it I need to find out my dns server. I have already typed in cmd and ipconfig /all. My dns is the same as my default gateway and the site tells me that if it shows as the same then its not my real dns. If I continue changing my ip without my real dns server number I won't be able to browse the internet. The site suggests that I need to log into my router's web interface and look at my router's status. I have done extensive searches on my window's explorer searching under my router's name and code and I get nothing. My dad is to old fashioned to help me he tells me not to mess with the computer, but I'm bored and I want to host a game for people. If I call my ISP for the dns server code they might not give me the answer since its under my dad's name, or they could even inform him. How would you suggest I handle this situation?

I have seen Motorola wireless routers and PCI adapters on ebay and other auction sites. Does anyone have a clue which retail stores carry these items. I don't want to wait for the items to be shipped to me when I can purchase the items right away and get up and running quickly.
