A b spec one will go up to 54mbps. This will be ideal for home use. A g spec will have faster speeds, but sometimes is affected by objects more than b. All of these types work with one another, so if your router is a b and your notebook is a g, it will work. I'd go for b.

Go to your local Circuit City or CompUSA (or whatever) and ask for a standard home wireless router. You will likely get a 802.11 b/g or a/b/g. That's the current standard and should be fine for most people.

Just to be paranoid, check what your current computer has, but that is probably a 802.11 b/g or a/b/g card, which will work with any standard router.

I am guessing you are talking about the letter at the end of the specification number. The newer ones (later in alphabet) are faster and more expensive. If you are using it for multiple PCs to access the web and your web connection is not faster than 10MBps then don't bother with the latest that can go to 100Mbps.

The ones you see on sale at stores like CompUSA for good prices are still pretty fast so they probably cover your needs and come with amazing rebates (On Washington's birthday the ones that usually sold for $49.99 had a $49 rebate.)

Get B/G. N is useless at the moment.
