like in xp you have workgroup computers and you can view all the computers connected to you over your network right? Well I can't access my workgroup computers how can I get around this and how do I find out what computers are connected over a network using a router to a windows 98 computer. It doesn't make it very user friendly to find out who your connected to over windows 98 with a network like in xp. Any suggestions also how can I remove the invalid access pop up when trying to view the workgroup

i am looking to a NAS (network attatched storage) device but since i ave been looking i have found other things and not sure what i need. i have a home network with all computers running xp and 1 running w98se. they are hooked up to a router and all accessing the internet and i am looking to hook up a storage device to plug in the router so all the computers on the network can access the files stored on it
since i have been looking i have also found a NDAS (network direct attached storage) and i cant figure out the difference. the only thing i could find is that the NDAS says can directly access the files but i thought that was the point of the NAS. i would also like to access the files over the internet but its not essential.
can someone please tell me more speciffacly what the difference is between the NAS and NDAS and what do i need to get
thanks

I recently switched from verizon dsl (at 3m download) to road runner cable (with up to 10m/s download).
With DSL, I used to get around 2.5M constant download speed, but ever since I switched to RR, my download speed during daytime is around 500kbits/sec. (at night time it goes up to 7m, but I don't use internet at night so it's useless)
I understand that since cable uses shared network, the speed will be slow during peak time, but 500kbits/sec (1/20 the promised speed!) seems ridiculously slow!
I called up TWC (about 10 times) and after going through all trouble shooting procedures they finally sent out a technician to my home and tested the line and said the outside lines in my building (i live in an apartment) needs maintenance. I just called TWC today and verified that the outside line maintenance was done few days ago, but the speed did not improve.
Is RR supposed to be this bad during peak time? Is there any way to fix this or should i switch back to dsl?

My network connection (LAN) is slow. so how do i speed up how many packets it sends and receives. My computer only send and receives about 2,000 to 2,500 packets. but when i look at the other computer it's more than 2,000,0000 packets. why is mine so slow but the other so fast? thanx in advance. i generally only use it to play StarCraft (MultiPlayer) and it's really laggy.

I have a wireless card in my laptop. I have a wireless connection at home and at a vacation house. But when I travel to a hotel or an internet cafe, I am asked for a security key. I thought by having a wireless card, I would be able to connect to a wireless connection at a hotel/internet cafe that provided wireless internet connection. Is there something I need to do to my settings?

I have a D-link wireless router at home and my new IBM ThinkPad laptop with WIN XP is very very rarely able to locate the wireless network at home. In the last six months, it has located it only twice. It doesn't work even if the laptop is in the same room as the router.

My previous Dell laptop with WIN XP used to connect to the home wireless network. My room-mate has an IBM ThinkPad as well and he has no problems connecting to the home wireless. However my new IBM laptop does not, even though it can locate several of my neighbors' wireless networks.

I usually access the internet via my city's free wireless network, but fail to understand why my home connection does not work. Any idea?

Thanks.

You use a (either a DSL or cable) high-speed connection to access the Internet. You open your browser to do a search on Google and receive an error message "Server cannot be found." How you might troubleshoot this error. What are the likely causes of this error?
