I can only hit the computers in my network...but I can't hit anyone on the outside...I tried like 100 different alive IP address' and it just says host not found...and the odds of all 100 of those IP's all havin port 139 blocked is kinda slim...maybe lol

1. My XP desktop gets one, but when I plug the patch cable into the laptop, it doesnt get a gateway address. It gets an ip address and a subnet mask, but no default gateway. I tried releasing/renewing the IP, but it won't let me (forgot what the message was)
2. DHCP is enabled
3. I get it work by manually assigning the TCP/IP settings, but dont want to have to do this all the time.

Any suggestions?

Ok, I have a network connectivity problem that is pretty strange, i've stumped the local help desk and IT guys. Here's the problem.

I have limited / no network connectivity while running normal mode in Windows XP sp2. The PC is not getting a IP address from the DHCP server either.

Reboot into safe mode, the network/internet works fine. I go back into normal mode, i disable all startup services and ect.. in msconfig, and still the same result.

I'm out of ideas and fixing to re-image the box....help!

The computers will be about 8 feet from each other, and the printer near one of them.

Dissertation topic in Networking... Please help!!?
I am currently doing my masters in information security. it just occured to me that it might be good to do something in networking as it can help break ground into the networking industry.
I have limited experience in the field. but would love to take up the challenge... I would like to work on a project that can help me prepare for CCNA exams...

I have a laptop at work that has been set up in a funny way. Basically i have a username/password for use when it is disconnected from the corporate LAN, also a user/pass for use on the network. I have info saved onto the user that i use when connected to the network, but need to access this info when the computer is offline (through the other user/pass). But currently i cannot.

Can anyone tell me how this can be acheived??

Many thanks.
