You can use the same Internet at the same time with two different computers. BUT that is a job for someone who knows how to do networking. One of the computers would need two Ethernet cards and the tech would have to create an Internet Sharing Connection.

Other than that, no you can't. It's better if you purchase a router or a switch (router recommended) as it has a little more security than a switch.

You need two ethernet connections on a computer. If that's not already available, you need to buy another ethernet card.

You also need a crossover cable. This is different than a normal CAT5 cable (so ask specifically for a crossover).

After you install the NIC card and put the crossover cable to your other computer you need to go into Control Panel, Network Connections, and right click on the connection to be shared and go to Properities. Go to the Advanced Tab (WinXP) and enable Internet Connection Sharing.

That's all that you need to do.

Another way of doing it is to buy a Wifi card (USB, PCI, whatever) to connect to your computer. From there you can set up your computer as an access point and allow as many computers as you want to use your connection (as long as they have wifi cards).

The easiest and cheapest way is to just buy a simple router. They're relatively cheap and you can find some for $10 or so used. Around $20 new. It's not that much more than buying another NIC or Wifi card and it's a lot simpler.

There might be a way to use one computer as a "master" but that machine would be slowed considerably and it would have to be on all of the time that the second one was used. I think that you want to spring for a router.
