We have a master connected directly to the modem and through a gateway I have a switch which 2 slaves run from. We can get a connection through this gateway but as soon as we re-boot the master the connection is no longer there so I have to fiddle with the settings. The slaves are set to obtain automatic i.p's. On the gateway connection however I have to manually set the i.p etc using the same subnet and default gateway as the master. As I said this works but when re-booted it looses the link/connection, whats happening? any help thanks

had DSL, but not wireless. If I take my router over there, how can I use my laptop upstairs witht he router? There is no phonejack in my room so do I replace her DSL modem on her PC downstairs with the router and create a network, or should I use the DSL cable from the router to plug into the back of the DSL modem, and connect the router to the DSL modem. These are both SBC DSL products.
So, once again, take out DSL modem on her PC and replace with Wireless router, or Plug router into DSL modem and leave as is

me old man is looking to upgrade his office IT eqp, this is current set up,

First - is it safe? if not what does he need to buy / implement etc...

firewall is just a router at present, not allowing people in from the net and stopping employees looking at some types of sites.. (porn i guess, haha)

his webserver is his PDC for his windows domain or something too if that makes any difference..

thanx!

I know what you're probably thinking, ndis wrapper. I tried that but it failed. If anyone knows of an easier way (not linuxant since it isn't free) to get the PCMCIA card working, can they please tell me! Also, if there is no way, can someone please tell me how to do it on ndis wrapper without it getting an error because I don't really understand Linux's Console Language and prefer to stay with GUI.

I have moved into a flat that is wired for LAN (ethernet wall sockets, Cat5e switch in kitchen cupboard). I use wireless networking, but I'd like to set my BT homehub so that I can use the wall sockets for NAS drives and other network devices. I am not sure how I can use the Cat5e switch, since my BT homehub needs to be connected to a phone line for the DSL modem in it to work and there are no phone sockets in the cupboard, apart from the BT master one. Any ideas?? Many thanks to all!
