at first i auume that you know lLANs
so if you have a groupe of computers you can save a lot of money and effort by saving files to one hard desk insted of all
tranfar quicly and easy
connect and caht with each other you may also play games
share one hardware or device insted of alot of them
for example you can buy a laserjet modern printer wich prints with high quality and very cheap cost to use it by all of you
you may share one fast internet acces
and all of you need is lan cards switches and some wires
in fact it is very helpfull
i am accesing internet throw a lan with two 2mb DSLs and it is fast and economic

If a printer is attached to a LAN anyone can print from anywhere in office or room.
