I have activated the connection, tried both static and dhcp, nothing is working. What else do I have to do?

Well this is probably something that you really don't want to hear BUT. If you re-install Ubuntu with your ethernet cable hooked, I repeat with your ethernet hooked up to your computer let Ubuntu do your work by when it comes to setting up the network just hit enter and when you are finished installing it. On the desktop you will need to use firefox as your browser at 1st. When you open up firefox it will go to a window then go up on the address bar erase out what is their and retype in the address where you want to go lie your http then the address, and from then on you will be able to use the internet. I am not a person who knows a lot about linux but I sure would like to know more but at the moment, I have done this in the past on a harddrive that I swapout and try to learn it by myself, I use a harddrive mobile swap it cost's about 10-20 depending on the functions. I bought off e-bay, I hope that this works for you and happy computting.

Are you attempting wireless or wired? Wired usually just works once you enable the connection from Networking. Be sure your connection and cable are good. Once you enable it go to the System Admin Network Tools and see if you are getting connection to the router etc.

Wireless takes just a little effort because you will need to enter the correct information and have an adapter that is compatible.
