I have moved into a flat that is wired for LAN (ethernet wall sockets, Cat5e switch in kitchen cupboard). I use wireless networking, but I'd like to set my BT homehub so that I can use the wall sockets for NAS drives and other network devices. I am not sure how I can use the Cat5e switch, since my BT homehub needs to be connected to a phone line for the DSL modem in it to work and there are no phone sockets in the cupboard, apart from the BT master one. Any ideas?? Many thanks to all!

You can connect the BT home hub in any room where there's an ethernet wall socket and a BT phone point (*). Things like NAS drives etc can be linked via the ethernet switch, and from your PC/laptop on wireless, the wired network will be available too - the wireless connection on the home hub is linked with the ethernet socket(s) [sorry, I don't know how many ethernet ports are on a home hub].

I assume you can find out the different IP addresses for devices you plug in from the Home Hub (I would used fixed IP addresses, but only you know what exactly you will be plugging in).

I wasn't sure whether the BT Master socket was in your kitchen - the Home Hub can be plugged in anywhere (but sometimes will give better speed from Master socket - my router is on a 10m extension, with lots of other things plugged in).

(*) just remember to use ADSL microfilters in any sockets where you have phone (or fax or answerphone) plugged in.

i latterly examine in on the instant's papers approximately contactless financial corporation taking part in cards. I do exactly not have confidence the assumption in any respect, Lily. interestingly, human beings in M &S and little question different shops have been purely status interior the selection of the contactless financial corporation readers and finding that the 'readers' have been scanning their info from taking part in cards that have been of their purses/wallets. It replaced into not till they gained their month-to-month statements that they got here across that they've been being charged for purchases that they had not made ! My previous formed theory of sticking to funds seems to be the suited way of heading off this, although I concern certainly funds will grow to be a ingredient of the previous interior the not too distant destiny. sure, I too am a sceptic, that is not long till now criminals have the potential to envision those contactless taking part in cards, so banks are purely making a rod for all of our backs.
