I connected a network cable to a windows 2000 computer and I have a windows XP. I want to give that computer the internet using the wireless internet connection on my computer. I connected the cable and it's not registering. What do I do to get it to work?

Need to use a special network cable called a "crossover cable" to connect 2 PCs directly, they are kind of hard to find; preferred option would be to add a hub/switch, connect both PCs to the switch via standard RJ45 Ethernet cables, then run the internet sharing wizard on PC that has wireless internet access. It will configure host for shared access and a reboot of 2nd PC after wizard completes should get the desired results.

Good Luck!

Because you haven't set up a Internet-sharing Local Area Network.

Also make sure both hard drives are NTFS,make sure you have the network set to automatically accquire an IP address,
make sure you share some folders, make sure they're both in the same workgroup, like MSHOME or MY WORKSPACE,
and that they're in the same subnet (you can find this out by typing ip /all, then ip/renew/release if you have to.) Then reboot everything. It would also help to have the same userid on both computers.
Remember,it's all about permissions.
Good luck!
