first things first, how do you know that the Ethernet port on the laptop is enabled ?? there are 2 places to check first to make sure that it is working. first, make sure that the LAN port is enabled in the networking screen and that it is set to automatic IP. second, make sure that the physical port is active in the BIOS. this port can be turned on and off in the BIOS, so make sure its on.
If the port appears to be enabled, then look at the port when you have the ethernet cable plugged into it, there should be some small lights, yellow and orange as well as green. green is good, that is what you want, if you have green then you should be connected and on the net, if other than green, then you have some extensive trouble shooting to do.

there are a number of opportunities, yet indexed right here are the main straightforward subject concerns a million. Cable systems are very choosy approximately their wiring. I had my Comcast cable act up by way of fact a connector outdoors the homestead corroded. call Comcast and ask them to learn out your connection. they are in a position to do it over the telephone. in the event that they see a concern, they are going to deliver a guy out to restoration it - for unfastened 2. confirm it is your router or your modem - the subsequent time the "information superhighway is going out" ping the router - If it would not respond - your router is the subject 3. in the experience that your router responds - verify it to work out if it has an IP handle from the modem - If it would not - call Comcast - Comcast oftentimes leases the modem, and could restoration it if it is the subject desire that helps

The wireless router should have other ports which can be directly connected with a Ethernet Cable to the LAN Port on your laptop. No special settings should be required to do this.

A special setup would be required if you are connecting between your desktop's LAN Port and the Laptop LAN Port.
