Hi Julie,

Can you let me know what make of router you have make and model number, also who your broadband is with. I may be able to help you.

You can email me as it isn't blocked and if your router is the same as mine I can email you some screen shots of how to configure it. Unfortunately routers and adapters are not always plug and play.

if the router is a hub, use cable to connect first.
all router/modems will give you a web browser to log into, this is where you configure your connection.
most will work from default settings, but you will need to put in your log in name and password provided by your ISP.
you will also need 2 IP address's and maybe the mac codes.
get these by going to start-run type cmd then press enter, this will give a 'dos type' window.
type ipconfig/all
press enter, the ip for your router, wireless card and wired card will be shown.
check through the options in the web browser set up screen and put the info in.
remember to set up security, WEP or WAP....easy done.
depending on how your browser is set up and which company owns it, there will be different names for various setting, so i cannot help too much here.
if there is one that gives account restrictions, or, account access (or similar) this is where the ip addy's will go and maybe the mac addy (some do not need the mac addy in)
hopefully, this should sort it.

this is a very difficult thing to do if using windows older than vista.you need to make sure you have an active internet connection with your computer wired to the modem firstly.you need to know your internet providers ip codes for the router to be configured also.you could try your ip providers tech lines if they are not too expensive.windows vista makes this process very simple.my advice is to get a good networking engineer in to see it it should cost about 40 pounds and is money very well spent.
