I'm just getting my feet wet with PC gaming and I'm looking to build a gaming server with some spare parts lying around the house... AMD 1700+, 512mb ram, 40 gig hard drive, high speed cable connection. I would prefer to use a linux OS(suse) so I woundn't have to pay for windows. I'm not looking to build anything superior, just something to run dedicated servers for Half Life, Counter Strike, and Halo(not all at the same time). Is this possible with this hardware? If not, what would I need? Thanks, Jim

My "budget" rig:
AMD Athlon XP 2800 Barton @ 2.17
Asrock K7S41GX mobo
512 ddr 400
40 gb maxtor
Gigabyte GeForce 6200 128mb
Aspire X-Qpack w/430 psu
Acer 8ms 19" widescreen LCD

P.S. Any additional gaming tips would be much appreciated : )

I've heard a couple of times that all this WiFi running through us all the time may have negative effects on health. Is there any truth to that?

Both computers are on the same network. I have access to all of the files on the other machine through the network neighborhood. If more details are needed, feel free to contact me through my e-Mail address.

Hi,
My problem is the following:
I recently got a 10Mb NTL cable connection.
I already have a Belkin wireless router, but it is not a stand alone device, it is a router and a modem combined. I used it for a previous connection when I had ADSL.
I have heard that in order to use cable ADSL wireless routing I need a stand alone router, BUT if I connect an ethernet cable to the ethernet port of the cable modem to one of the four ports of the router and then I connect my desktop's ethernet cable to the router I get internet connectivity. I also get wireless connectivity but none of my laptops can browse to the internet eventhough they are connected to the router...Are there any settings that I should take care about or is it hopeless since it is not a stand alone device? I can connect to the router wireless from a laptop and apply settings but not from the desktop...Whats going on??
Help please!? Since I get internet connectivity via the router..
Thank you in advance

One XP server that will connect with 10+ wireless notebooks. They will need to connect to internet (DSL) and run programs off the server (Word, etc).

Would that be a hub / switch for the network and a router for the internet?

I'm more familiar with ethernet not wireless in a peer to peer environment.

please be somewhat detailed. Thanks.
