I have mine hooked up to DSL hard wired and wireless. Just go to walmart and get you a 4 port linksys hub for about 50 bucks and a network card. Plug your Linksys hub direct to the DSL network plug and log into the hub and set it up for Point to point. Put in your user name and password and put the DSL modem in the back room somewhere because it is not needed. The modem is controlled by SBC or who ever you are connecting to. So If you do not use the modem you will get the full 2 megabit with no limits.

Or you can just plug the DSL modem into the linksys hub and do it that way.

Really pretty easy.

Easiest way that I found was to get a hub and switch set-up. I went to a local computer recycling center in my area and the whole set-up (used) cost me only $10. It is also efficient since I am able to use one monitor and switch b/w all three of my PC's as needed.

You need one router and a ethernet patch (not crossover) cable per computer. If you are using a Westel modem it has a router built in. You will only need a switch, not a router. If you want wireless to will need a wireless NIC per computer, and a wireless access point instead of a switch.

You can use ICS(Internet Connection Sharing) or create a client-server model and allow the server to pass internet connection to clients.

You may need to create a workgroup and have all users to join it.

what type of modem do you have? if you have siemens 4100 or speedstream 5100, basically these modem are only capable of connecting 1 pc with an ethernet cable. the best way for you do to is to buy a router so that you could use multiple PCs. but, if you will be using a router, you have to set the modem to bridge mode. to do that, just access internet explorer, type in 192.168.0.1. click on advanced>>>PPP location>>>select Bridged mode>>>save changes>>>there are times that it will be asking to you to restart your modem so just click on restart. if there's none, that's okay. by doing this step, you wont be able to connect to the internet since your email address and pw with sbc are now completely erased from the modem.
the reason why you are setting your modem to bridged mode is because you will be saving your email address and pw on the router that you will be connecting to it.
NOTE:
you will only have 3 steady green lights: power, ethernet, DSL. internet light will be unlit. (intenet light has to do with your email address and pw with sbc).

after doing all these steps, hook your router on the modem and then ask your router tech support to assist you in configuring the settings of your router.
NOTE:
if you will be buying a Netgear router, there's no need for you to set your modem to bridged mode.

if you want to reset your modem or want to connect your pc directly to it, for 4100, you have a reset hole at the back of it. it might be covered by a white sticker. take the sticker out and push the hole for 5seconds with a pen then release. you will notice that the lights on your modem are blinking. if not, try to do it again. access again 192.168.0.1>>>advanced>>>connection configuration>>>type in your complete email address and pw with sbc, scroll down to the bottom of the page and save the changes>>>click on restart.>>>click on login, click on connect. it will tell you if you are already connected to the internet.
right after that, you will also notice that you will already have a light on your internet on the modem.
if you have 5100, the reset hole is underneath the modem, still covered with a white sticker. do the same steps.

if you have a 2wire modem, you can connect your computers with a USB cable or wireless.
for wireless:
if you have a wireless adapter installed on the pc, go to control panel, network and internet connections/network connections.. you are supposed to be having a wireless network connection. if you dont have an icon for wireless network connection, then you have to install a wireless adapter. purchase wireless adapter in any computer shop or you can try contacting your pc manufacturer also.
if you have a wireless network connection icon, right click on it and click properties. you are supposed to be having wireless networks tab.
if you have this tab, make sure that the box that says use windows to configure my wireless network settings has a check mark.
for win xp pack 1, check for your available networks. you are supposed to be having 2wireXXX. try looking for the last 3digit number of the serial number of your 2wire. select the one with the same number on your available network then click configure. on the next window, make sure that there is only 1 box that is checked and it should only be the data encryption (WEP enabled). it will be asking you for a network key. your network key is found underneath the modem, below the serial number. it is a 10-digit number and is enclosed in brackets ( [ ] ). click on ok and another ok. it will try to acquire ip address. once it's done, try checking if the wireless connection is already enabled. if it is, try connectinfg to the internet.
for win xp pack 2, right click on wireless network connection, properties. click wireless networks tab, make sure that the box still has a check mark then click view available wireless networks. look for your 2wireXXX then click connect. do the same thing if it's asking for your network key.
NOTE:
if you dont have wireless networks tab:
go to control panel>>>administrative tools>>>services>>>look for wireless zero configuration and double click on it.>>>on the new window that appears, under the general tab, change the startup type to automatic>>>click on apply>>>click on start>>>click on okay.
go back to your wireless network connection again, right click on it>>properties and do the same steps...
if your wireless network connection has an x mark, and you dont see any available wireless networks, right click on your wireless network connection icon and click repair. if the PC is unable to repair it, contact your OEM to configure your wireless adapter.

hope this helps.
mwah!!
