When I was working on my computer last night, I had to leave it alone for a few minutes to do something else, when I came back to finish what I was doing it had already gone into the sleep mode, than when I tried to wake it up, the screen came up for a couple of seconds than changed back to a black screen, almost as if it was going back to sleep. But I could just barely make out what was on the screen, but not enough to do anything. Tried shutting everything down and rebooting everything, but nothing, turned the screen off than on again, comes on for a short second than goes black again. Connections are all okay. Not sure if maybe my monitor has bit the big one or not, or if something is on my computer itself doing this.

I was pretty much ready to fire it out the door last night.

So, anyway that's my problem. If anyone has any suggestions they would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, my problem is with a new computer i just got. I think it is a hardware issue and looking for help to pinpoint the problem. The computer boots ok, but at random times it will lock everything up and then make diagonal lines on the monitor. I have to do a hard restart and it will load up again. But this is happening more and more frequently. Please help. I am wondering if it might be a motherboard short or something. The video card is an on board video card if that helps.

Basically a little while back I had to do a system restore. I now have only 400mb free space on my D: hard drive, where as I have 90GB free on my C: drive. It is only since I have restored the system that the hard drives size have gone a bit pear shaped.
The D: drive is purely just Windows things.
I have De fragged, system scanned etc. etc. Basically I think the computer is running slowly because I have such little space on my D: drive now.

Is there any way I can speed it up?

I use AIM at work but I want to be careful to not be so obvious in using it too often.
Whenever someone IMs ME, the aim window pops right in front and center of my screen and its quite obvious for people to see that I'm chatting... does any1 know how to change this setting??
Also, is there any way to change the AIM icon/ picture on the window tab and system tray? Like a "fake" icon such as the one used on MSN messenger??

I have email myspace so many times and no response so if you know something that could help me please pass it on my email address is not working for as my id and neather is my password. I tried to reopen a myspace account and it's says my email is already there and so is my account i realy don't know what to do. I'd even asked myspace to close the account so i could reopen it and no response to that eather. Thanks

At home, I am able to connect to certain programs using WiFi, such as Xfire and Steam. When I go to my school to connect to WiFi, I am the only one that is unable to establish a connection with those 2 programs, and others as well. The people around me are able to connect to them, but I cannot. If anyone knows a possible issue, please respond! - I tried disabling my firewall, did not work.

I want to download torrents, i have uTorrent but it's absurdly slow, either 0.0 kB/s or 0.1 kB/s. I don't mind if it's fairly slow (i'd be ok with around 10 kB/s) but there's no way i'm going to be able to figure out how to use port forwarding. is it possible to download torrents without setting up port forwarding or anything? i have a fast connection, which program should i use?

I've just got switched to ubuntu and I can't find a driver for my network adapter, it's a Realtek RTL 8139 model, I found a driver saying linux for the OS I downloaded it, I t was a very small download, only 17kb I transfered to my other pc (the one with Ubuntu on) Via USB storage card but nothing happened, it never picked up the software

I also have a wireless card but again I can't find the right software for it, it's inventel and usually comes with a wanadoo package.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks

Here's what has happened. Hard drive on laptop got fried and Best Buy replaced the hard drive because it was still under warranty. Customer had singned the service contract when he dropped it off, to NOT BACK UP ANY DATA. First question is, what do they do with the fried hard drive? Do they send it to the manufacturer and what do they do with it? Second where or if any is there any privacy laws on when the customer specifically said not to extract nor back up any files? I'm talking pictures, videos, any files that has to do with papers that have been written for college, etc? When the fried hard drive is replaced with a new one, what is the protocal with the old hard drive? Do they destroy it?

Okay so one day my computer was working fine. Then when i inserted a CD which contained pictures and some other stuff, My computer started getting slow and lagging. I ran some scans but nothing came up. The computer then started restarting on its own, giving me no error message and no Blue Screen. I right clicked my computer--> properties-->and uncliked []RESTART AUTOMATICALLY.But I found out that it still restarts. Now the puzzling thing is that it has no particular time patern to restart but only when i go to Start-->run and type anything (msconfig, or chkdsk C: /f, cmd) it restarts and when i try to download an antivirus software it resarts. It also restarts when i try to look for which .exe process can be a virus online.(e.g when i search smss.exe or lsass.exe on websites)
Someone told me to go to Start-->run type msconfig and Disable all process. After doing this I cant loggin yahoo or hotmail or anything. I cant use my scanner.Now i cant undo
Im on Wndows xP sp2. HELP!

My college blocks every kind of download possible. My computer says that it's being controlled by the administrators "group policy." I've tried proxy servers and it just doesn't work. I want to download a torrent for a game, but have no way of doing so. It always says, 'download was cancelled by peer'. Any suggestions/solutions?
