When I was working on my computer last night, I had to leave it alone for a few minutes to do something else, when I came back to finish what I was doing it had already gone into the sleep mode, than when I tried to wake it up, the screen came up for a couple of seconds than changed back to a black screen, almost as if it was going back to sleep. But I could just barely make out what was on the screen, but not enough to do anything. Tried shutting everything down and rebooting everything, but nothing, turned the screen off than on again, comes on for a short second than goes black again. Connections are all okay. Not sure if maybe my monitor has bit the big one or not, or if something is on my computer itself doing this.

I was pretty much ready to fire it out the door last night.

So, anyway that's my problem. If anyone has any suggestions they would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

It's time for a new monitor, the inverter has gone out. It can be fixed but finding the parts would be a pain, i have a 19' lcd monitor that did this and I took it to a shop and for what they wanted to charge was not worth it so I bought another. There are two back lights inside the monitor that lights up to show whats on the screen, and can be replaced but are hard to get to. Just buy a new one. It has nothing to do with your computer as the first person stated, it the monitor. I am a pc repair tech and I have been in business for over 16 years and I always tell my customers to just buy a new one instead of paying a $100 bucks to fix it.

This could be a couple things: 1. Power supply could be dying or insufficient. Have you added anything recently like a new video card? If your power supply is spiking/browning out it might be time to get a new one. 2. Heat. Check your fans and heatsinks for dust/hair. When the computer gets too hot the motherboard will try and save itself by shutting down. 3. Virus. Probably not but why not run a check anyway to eliminate it as a cause. 4. Restore point. If this just started to happen, perhaps you can jump back to a previous restore point and see if the problem goes away. Good luck!

It sounds like the inverter card that controls the backlights in the panel is shutting down for some reason.

Try unplugging the monitor from the system unit. If the monitor stays the same as you turn it off and on then it is a monitor problem.

If it works O.K. and produces a test message, then it is probably your video card that is messed up.

Could be problem with your video card. If you can get your hands on another monitor try it see if is your monitor or not. If the new monitor does the same thing then it is probably your video card. How old is this computer?
