I am trying to import footage I backed up from a camcorder using WinTV. When I go to import a piece of video (MPEG), it takes about a minute then says it has encountered an error and shuts down. I have tried disabling codecs and re-enabling them again. Any ideas?

I have set up a 2 PC network using a crossover ethernet cable. I have an ADSL modem I have followed the microsoft instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;306126 to set up the sharing of the internet connection. I have manually configured the IP addresses. However, despite the fact that the network is set up and working, the client computer cannot access the internet or email. Why? I'm going nuts. The host computer has no problem accessing the internet but it's not trying to access it over the network.

I have a Dell XPS, a gaming computer and a everyday Hi-Grade home PC. Anyway, the speakers for the normal comp broke. The gaming computer doesn't currently have access to the internet, we are getting wireless in the week. I tried to connect the dell speakers to the normal comp, but they`re very odd. The dell speaker is a large black box, with a dial for changing bass, it has five slots, four for left and right speakers, and a large plug for the center speaker, which has a dial for changing volume. I have no idea how to plug it into my normal comp, I did it about a year ago, but put the speakers back into the dell. None of the plugs seem to fit, but I've made uit work before. Please help, because when something is explained on a video with audio- I can't hear it and it's really annoying.

No "get an upgrade" answers please.I have a large offer from someone and I can choocse any graphics card from his shop for free...
So, what would you recommend me?

Currently my Cd Drive is broken and i dont have the money at the moment to buy another one, If i took out my current hard drive with the xp os and and installed into another computer as secondary slave and reformat it and installed xp

hi i got a sata hard disk, so it gives me 2 slots for ide cable
i have dvdrom on drive e: and cdrom on f:
i use 2 ide cable for each because when i use only one
my pc wont boot.

can someone pls explain why it wont work with only one ide

I have a 500 GB Western Digital external hard drive connected by USB to my port replicator to which my laptop is docked. Sometimes I am able to turn off/remove this HD through the "Safely Remove Hardware," but more often than not, it tells me it is unable to stop the drive and to try again later. I would try again later and get the same message, so usually I will just leave it connected to the port replicator. It will remain on, but my laptop will be off.

SO, the question is, does the HD ever need to be turned off? If not, I'd just rather not bother anymore. I just don't want it to crash/have a melt down if I do not remove it or turn it off every day.

I am either getting a laptop or iBook for my Dad's house. I have A Windows XP computer at my mum's and wanted to try out an iBook. My mate has a PC, iBook and iMac and they say it is really good. Can I please have some pros and cons for either of them, I know Macs can install windows xp or vista which I am going to do if I get one but will the Windows on the iBook lag if i get a basic iBook (new but cheap).

Also on a laptop I can guarantee that Adobe After Effects will lag because on my Windows it does and I have a lot of ram (more than what comes with a Laptop). Will it lag on a iBook? I have heard it is extremely powerfull but i want to do a lot of editing and will iBook be a better choice?

I am hopefully getting to get an ibook soon and wanted to know why Mac's have a lower amount processor and runs better? Also how would, for example 3.0gHZ and 3.2gHZ change the computer? Does it make it fun faster or something?

Hey I have an important question that I need a HELPFUL answer to

My dad's dell inspiron 6000 is very messed up. He's had the computer for about a year now. A few days ago, he bought a casio exilim digi camera. He installed the software from the cd that came with the camera. He says ever since then, his wifi is not working right. Not only that, but internet explorer wont even open up. It opens and closes within 1 second. The computer isnt recognizing his built-in wireless card

On top of that, his built-in speakers arent working. it says that there are no audio devices connected. Instead of playing a sound it just makes a LOUD beep

Also I also think there is a problem with the video card, because the appearance properties dont allow the "windows xp theme". it only allows the "windows classic" theme. and also, windows skip a lot while u move them

We tried to use System Restore, but it wont let you open it. And Norton detects no viruses anywhere on the computer

PLEASE HELP US!

I have a mac book with 2 gb ram. I want to use boot camp to run both window and mac but I don't know whether to install window vista or xp because in school, some file is only window only. Window vista is good because in the future most file is vista based not xp but I fear vista will blue screen and cause problem to my mac. I heard vista has alot of problem. Xp might be good because it does not crash as much but in the future, most file will be vista only. Please help me and tell which is better. If you say xp tell me the model (professional, home, etc.) If vista tell me model (basic, home, ultimate,etc) Please help. Thanks! Also tell me why I should get that specific window software. (Like xp, vista)

I am very well versed in all the Web 2.0 apps, such as Flickr and such. I understand social networking as well. What I do not understand is the attraction to MySpace, which seems to be nothing more than a collection of tragically designed websites that are linked together.

What am I missing?
