While it might be possible to set up a fat partition and install MS-DOS, you would also need to set up a menu system, such as grub so you could select the DOS partition for start-up - and no doubt there are other problems that you are not prepared for.

Why would you want MS-DOS? You can run DOS commands within XP - Start Command and you are at a DOS window. DOS is an operating system, as is CP/M and many others that have passed pretty much into history. You can not access data on partitions formatted as Fat32 or NTFS. It is pretty limited. Old, antique games if you are into that stuff, but ?????

What you might want to do is install Microsoft Virtual PC (or any other similar program) and run DOS inside it. I have done this myself.

You can get Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 free here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx
