I am hopefully getting to get an ibook soon and wanted to know why Mac's have a lower amount processor and runs better? Also how would, for example 3.0gHZ and 3.2gHZ change the computer? Does it make it fun faster or something?

Thanks for your help

I presume you meant a MACbook, not an ibook.

Macs these days *don't* have slower processors, although they used to. They seem to run faster because they have better memory mapping algorithms and IO priorities... Two things that windows XP lacks (although Vista has improved on).

Speed generally means nothing. A 4ghz pentium 4 processor will be beaten by a 2ghz Core 2 Duo (Conroe) processor. Efficiency is what's key. Modern CPU's can do more with every hz (ghz = billions of hz) than older ones could, so they don't need as many hz as older ones did.

As for 3.2 vs 3.0ghz... Nothing. If you're getting a macbook, I'd get around 1.8ghz one. Longer battery life with a slower CPU, and less heat.

Your processing activities will not be any faster on a Mac or under XP/Vista or under Linux, nor I'll bet under CP/M!

Theoretical speeds don't translate directly over to activities. If you are going from 0 to Mac, ok it might be no slower than learning a PC. But if you are going from PC to Mac, expect things to be slow at the start (human operator factors).

Don't spend too much time worrying about "mine is faster than yours", because I bet you a hot i86 PC will blow away any i86 Mac! If your ibook is not using an Intel processor, you are buying into dead Mac technology.

i'm a Microsoft hater who says high-quality issues approximately Apple plenty. That suggested, this probable is somewhat overblown. homestead windows is a commodity working equipment whose producer routines no administration over the known of the machines which run it. If it tried to it would at last locate itself earlier anti-have faith regulator lower back. Apple does certainly workout high quality controls. area of this administration, in view that Jobs's return to Apple int the Eighteen Nineties has been using UNIX because of the fact the middle of the working equipment. not in basic terms any UNIX yet BSD UNIX it quite is parental to Linux. that's an OS on which quite a number of pc technological expertise better, and for the final thirty years graduate pupils have been assigned to improve its purposes. because of the fact it is likewise, like Linux, a modular OS Jobs become ablet to do a great style of cherry-choosing to locate areas he cherished. The Apple is a extra effective-engineered device, for presentation pics. there is not any question. till the Eighteen Nineties they have been extra effective machines, however the economics of that throughout what has constantly been a commoditized industry -- own computers -- led to first Jobs's firing then that of activity's alternative John Scully -- and Jobs's return. I in general use Linux on quite commodity computers. I do pics -- yet in particular on paper with a broom or lettering pen. i'm able to borrow or hire macs whilst i might desire to do serious pics -- windfall RI is Mac usa. however for hassle-free stuff Dells and Acers etc will paintings properly with a knoppix stay cd. That Vista Aero does maximum of what Linux's Compiz does -- only 5 + years later and on 4 time the hardware ought to offer you some theory of in basic terms how inefficient homestead windows is. So Apple's OS provides it a extensive benefit. Then there comes the engineering and particular, Apple is quite extra effective. a great style of folk right here don't like it. they have an inclination to not be the type who might use it for its meant purpose. this is not sure to run a homestead windows software extra effective than it runs on homestead windows, whether it may run the Mac version of a homestead windows software extra effective than any homestead windows device can run the homestead windows version. no remember if that's rather well worth the extra funds is as much as the guy asking.

There are several reasons, but the main one is how the systems operate. Mac's when started basically only turn on the items they need to run. Windows on start up opens up a whole gaggle of useless programs and leaves the running hidden in the background. A major flaw in the Windows system I think.

Windows has always been slow. I gobsmacked people in the mid 90's by running the OS/2 2.1 Windows emulator on a PC half the speed everybody else had and it was three times quicker. I wish Bill would let IBM sort out his operating system.

its all in the OS. take those slower windows systems and run Linux on them and theyll run faster....more gHZ means more processing speed so yes...i recommend alienware notebooks... http://alienware.com

Macs just manage info better. It's all in the programming. PC's have to pump up the processor to compete because they aren't programmed as well.
