I recognized that problem, it took a little research to find the info I have seen about it. (I'm a novice with Linux myself.)

First off, I am not at all familar with installing with Wubi. I have an ATI card as well and know that the support for ATI is poor (for Linux in general -- not just Ubuntu).

The problem is that the driver included with Ubuntu for our cards is a proprietary driver and not enabled by default. The default open-source driver apparently doesn't work for everyone.

try what it says in the here: http://www.ubuntux.org/x-server-problem-during-install#comment-736

(Note: for the step 2 -- I have seen this elsewhere: "After booting into the CD X won't start. Hit Enter to say OK to the error messages and get back to the black screen. You may need to switch to ALT-F4 to get an "ubuntu" user." -- so which ever way works to get to the command prompt.)

if all of that works and you selected the vesa (generic driver) instead of the ATI one and it works then do this (that's old you shouldn't need to install the ATI fglrx driver - just enable it.

do this from the Gnome panel (at the top of screen):
System>Administration>Enable Restricted Drivers Manager. Check the unchecked graphic driver. You need to restart Ubuntu (however you do that) and hopefully the driver will automatically configure your xorg.conf.

--- hopefully that will help. let me know the results.

that's an previous tale..... Linux isn't now an working device committed to tech people who use the command-line interface (CLI). Ubuntu is a fashionable device the place the consumer could desire to apply the own notebook interface or the CLI. A prentice consumer start to evaluate a sistem use it own notebook area, and this actuality that's significant on your determination to be sure on a device or yet another. Create distinctive version of a device is a "real" fee and could desire to port greater guy or woman to "attempt" yet another OS. The consumer could desire to be sure on after an instantaneous mindset what form of device could pick to apply.
