I am very well versed in all the Web 2.0 apps, such as Flickr and such. I understand social networking as well. What I do not understand is the attraction to MySpace, which seems to be nothing more than a collection of tragically designed websites that are linked together.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Martin

Your not missing much...I can't figure out the attraction to that website myself. I think its way too overrated.

You aren't missing a thing because that is very true. The people on Myspace, for the most part, only display their inexperience w/ html with the "designing" of their profile.

I would say that the simplest way to explain Myspace's attraction is that everyone has it. It was sort of a snowball effect, & when eUniverse launched the site back in 2003, they were very successful, w/ the aid of their sources & contacts, to get the word out locally about Myspace. As Tom explained in one interview, "it was all about people telling other people".

Since everyone started getting one, everyone who didn't have one wasn't cool or really "in touch" with their friends as much as they could be, & as more & more people discovered this, they began to quickly flock over to Myspace.

I actually have the interview that Tom was in off of YouTube. He explains some of the details.

I like it because I'm a 13 year old who YES likes to show off the fact I can use basic html and NO I'm not experienced enough to create my own website. I also use bebo which is equally pointless but doesn't give as much freedom as myspace. [[Once mum gets thee imac I'ma gonna try doing my own sites though!]]
But no I dont understand why adults feel the need to use myspace. Isn't facebook supposed to be for adults??
It's kinda sad when you see adults on myspace apart from to promote music [[no offence to anyone who does use it!]]
then again... What's the attraction to yahoo answers ? ;]

Anyway my excuse for using myspace is im 13 and i have no life because i'm not allowed to have one yet.
(:

I can't figure it either. It just a collection of emotionally confused kids and their poorly designed webpages collecting a truckload of "friends" who amount to no more than a a number. I think YouTube is a truly superior medium.

I enjoy it because it's been a great way for me to hunt down old friends I hadn't heard from in years. I also use it to promote my bulldogs that I breed and network with other enthusiasts.
