Computers & Internet - 24 September 2007

I'm in France on exchange for a year. Unfortunately, there's no internet connections in the rooms. But there are spots on campus for wifi. Me, and the American students, have bitched about the internet situation and have tried to find solutions. We have other adjustments to make, among other things. But this is our main concern. The wifi connection isn't terribly far from me. I would say between 500-1000 feet from my dorm room. Is there any way that I could pick up this connection from this range? Maybe a usb wireless card or just a regular wireless card for my laptop? I don't want to buy one unless there's a possibility it will work. Any answers would be greatly appreciated! :-)

I have just bought an Intel Extreme QX6850 and im not on the hunt for a motherboard, I understand it either Asus or Gigabyte that i'll have to go for but im not sure what to get, budget is not a question at the moment. 1333 FSB, 8gb RAM capacity, SLI support gigabit LAN etc are things I would want on the board thanks

Hi all, i guess sumthn has happened 2 my laptop...wen i click on any icon...it automatically scrolls 2 all other icons...and finally halts at d last one...like if der r 2 options in any window ...like ok n cancel...den it automatically selects d last option...suppose cancel ...i m not able 2 click on ok...what cud be the problem .... i have tried everythn i cud...even restored my computer...checked 4 ny malicious prgrm...but i dont thnk deres ny virus...

I'm writing emails and things on my laptop and every now and again what I'm typing will just stop appearing. If I have the cursor in the text box it reappears where the mouse is pointing but then you get half sentences all over the page. If I have the cursor outside it just stops altogether. Why is this and is there any way of getting it fixed?

i have BSNL dataone router model no. smartAX mt882. i want to configure in bridge mode. presently i am running in PPPoE mode i want to change in bridge. but when i click right mouse then on Bridge Option a msg display on screen that "To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internet connection that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing".

so plz tell wat is first step for configuring the Bridge Mode

Printer is HP LAser Jet M1005. The name of document that is always pending is "Remote Downlevel Doucumet" from Guest Comp. I have even reinstalled the Printer but as soon I give print command it comes automatically and hinder the printing of other documents from any of the computer. Please help me on this.

i recently switched to firefox and have been trying to deal with making everything of mine compatible for both FF and IE.

i need to increase disc space of winxp partition as it's recommended to have 20%free space at least in winxp partition.
Currently i have 3 partition magic soft-apps norton,powerquest and paragon ( pretty new version).Powerquest failed in the past to resize Winxp partition.Now i'm scared about using those partition magics cause my latest winxp installation cd is not bootable (incase my os fails to boot from HD )although bios is set for boot from optical drives(cd/dvd's). Any useful ideas,please?

Hey all,

I'm building a new pc and i have the cpu... but it isn't the newest cpu on the market... so i'm wondering how to determine for myself what graphics card will and won't be bottlenecked my my new system.

I'd prefer not to disclose what cpu etc. my new system has... i just want to know how to figure out bottlenecking for myself instead of always needing to ask.

This driveing me mad, its like as if someone else is moveing it? its not the usaul ball mouse its the kinda electronic one. My friends' profiles (even though they're in the US) are all in German, and I can't read them. So are a bunch of other things. Instead of a "help" menu, I have a "hilfe" menu. How can I change my preferences so it's in English?
Stupid MSN. I already tried searching how to do it, and couldn't find anything that would help me. And of course when I start getting into it, it's all in German. Argh!
